Location
The Research Triangle Executive Language Program is located in Durham, North Carolina, home to Duke University and Research Triangle Park. Our base of operations will be at Duke Tower Hotel & Condominiums (www.DukeTower.com), where all RTELP attendees will stay.

Duke Tower is an all-condominium hotel, perfectly designed for long-term stays. All condominiums include separate living and bedrooms with either one single or two double beds for one or two people. All suites have fully equipped kitchens so attendees can cook their own food. There are two TVs with cable/HBO, free Internet (wired and Wi-Fi) and free local phone service. Attendees will enjoy breakfast in the Historic Tower Cafe. Each suite opens to a beautifully-landscaped courtyard, a large outdoor pool and the historic Duke Tower. The landscaped courtyard includes a giant chessboard with pieces, shuffleboard, an arbor with seating and many other areas for relaxing and socializing. Pet-friendly and smoking suites are available.

Duke Tower’s location is excellent, right around the corner from the RTELP classrooms. It is three blocks from Duke University and four blocks from the Brightleaf Square restaurant district, with over 25 restaurants.

The “Research Triangle” region is made up of Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill, each with a major university—Duke University in Durham, North Carolina State
University in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These three universities consistently rank among the best universities in the world and are home to many Nobel Prize winners in a variety of areas.

In the middle of the triangle formed by the three cities is Research Triangle Park, (RTP) the largest research park in the United States. RTP is one of the most prominent high-tech research and development centers in the United States and is often compared to Silicon Valley.

RTP is home to one of the largest IBM operations in the world; the company has around 11,000 employees in RTP. RTP hosts GlaxoSmithKline's US headquarters and its largest R&D center with approximately 5,000 employees.

Other internationally known companies located in or near RTP include Lenovo, BASF, Sony Ericsson, Red Hat, Becton Dickinson, Sumitomo, Merck, Credit Suisse, Bayer, SAS Institute, DuPont, Microsoft, and many others.

Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill have won many awards and recognition for the quality of life, including excellent schools, reasonable housing prices and many economic, educational and business opportunities. Some recent rankings include:

  • #1 Best City for Jobs (Forbes)
  • #1 High Tech Region (Silicon Valley Leadership Group)
  • #1 Region for Biotechnology (Milken Institute)
  • #1 Best Place for Business & Careers (Forbes)
  • #1 Place to Live and Work (Employment Review)
  • #1 Boom Town in America (Business 2.0)
  • #1 City for Education (Forbes)
  • Top Ten in World Knowledge Competitiveness (World Knowledge Competitiveness Index)
US News & World Report in 2009 ranked Durham as one of the “Best 10 Places to Live” in the USA, stating: Once a tobacco town, Durham, North Carolina, has evolved into a world-class center of all things advanced. This city of 206,000, located halfway between the Atlantic coast and the Great Smoky Mountains, is called the "City of Medicine" because of its expansive healthcare industry. And although widely known as the home of prestigious Duke University, it's also a thriving technology hub. At the same time, Durham's mild climate allows residents to get out and explore the region's abundant outdoor attractions. Consider hiking one of the many distinct trails and greenways or heading over to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for an afternoon baseball game. RTELP welcomes all of our students to the Research Triangle region. We are sure you will have an excellent experience in our neighborhood and will want to come back many times.
