As part of our unique optional evening programs, experienced
immigration lawyers, business brokers, real estate agents and other
business professionals will make presentations to the students. They
will explain options concerning immigrating to the USA, buying a
business or house and life in the USA. RTELP makes no guarantees about
the ability to immigrate to the USA. The ability to obtain temporary
or permanent residence status varies greatly with each person’s
abilities, effort and financial resources.
Our partner in immigration law is Jack Pinnix of the law firm Allen
and Pinnix. For the past 30 years he has limited his practice to
immigration and nationality issues. Mr. Pinnix’s clients have learned
that his background and experience make him uniquely qualified to
assist them in this extraordinarily complex area of the law. A
nationally recognized authority on immigration law and policy, Mr.
Pinnix served as the national president of the American Immigration
Lawyers Association (AILA), 2002-2003, and he was among the very first
attorneys in North Carolina to practice immigration law. He was a
founding member of the Carolinas Chapter of the American Immigration
Lawyers Association, and twice served as Chapter Chair. Mr. Pinnix has
successfully represented thousands of clients in virtually every area
of immigration law. This includes persons seeking immigrant and
non-immigrant employment authorization, lawful permanent resident
status (a “green card”), and U.S. citizenship. He has been involved
in complex cases involving deportation/removal and asylum on both the
administrative and appellate levels. Mr. Pinnix has served as an
Adjunct Professor at North Carolina Central University School of Law
and Elon University School of Law and as a Senior Lecturing Fellow at
Duke University School of Law. Since 1991, he has been listed in The
Best Lawyers in America in the Immigration Law category and in North
Carolina Super Lawyers (2009).
Our business broker partner is Tim Martin, partner of Empire Business
Brokers in Raleigh, North Carolina, which has been serving North
Carolina's Triangle area since 1989. A business broker is a person who
acts as an intermediary between sellers and buyers of small
businesses. Business brokers assist buyers and sellers of privately
held small business in the buying and selling process. They estimate
the value of the business; advertise it for sale; handle the initial
potential buyer interviews, discussions, and negotiations with
prospective buyers; facilitate the progress of the due diligence
investigation and generally assist with the business sale.
Mr. Martin is a CPA, and has worked with public accounting firms for
several years. He has also worked in the employee leasing business and
has started and operated a successful small business. In addition to
his work as a CPA, Mr. Martin is also a real estate broker with
extensive experience in working with small and medium sized
businesses.
For our real estate partners, we will draw from established real
estate agents in the three major markets of the Research Triangle,
Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh/Cary.
